Hey everyone,
So I watch ESPN on occasion, and when I watch it, I am watching it to get the sports news, and not get into the lives of the players. I'm sick of seeing who cheated on who with who's wife, and who got divorced and so on... I personally don't think that it is okay to publicize their lives, and they do some ridiculous things that should not be made public. And, it may give off the image that it is okay to do some of the things they do because they always get away

There are many noticeable scandals that have been shown on television. One of the most public was the Kobe Bryant rape allegations. As soon he had admitted to committing adultery several times, it immediately became public and was shown right away on Sports Center, and other entertainment shows. He immediately claimed not guilty but did admit to cheating before. Press Conference and did he end up innocent? Of course!
Another incident made public is A-Rod and the Madonna scandal. Who really cares about it on a sports network!? My belief is that men watch Sports Center to watch sports not listen to relationship drama.
I think that when people see things like this, they decided that it is fine if they do it. These celebrities/athletes get away with everything all the time. And, it just goes to show you that they get away with things at their sporting event and in their personal lives, and it just gives off the image that they can get away with what these people do. But, in reality, these people just have money to get out of their problems.
I agree with you. I think it is stupid that they put that crap on a Sports Channel that mostly men watch anyway, so what are they thinking??!? If they really wanted to get more viewers they would put all that stuff on a separate channel so those who do want to see and hear about that kind of stuff can and the ones that want to hear about sports can hear about sports.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think that athlete's lives are anything that the public has the right to know about. Some athletes are looked up to by many people, so I can see why some people might want to know their business. The media really blows all of these little misunderstandings out of proportion and I don't think that it is fair. Athletes that are in the public eye should not have to deal with people getting in their business. I think that people should just think about their own problems and stop worrying about others.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think that the news of athletes should be as much focus as the media makes it. I think that when you turn on ESPN to catch some updates and scores on your favorite teams, you should receive just that, not the newest gossip and problems of the athletes we all know. I think that there is a time and place for everything. If someone wants to see the newest gossip and rumors they should turn to gossip magazines and shows, not channels that are meant for sports.
ReplyDeleteI think that an athelete should only be seen on tv when they are playing the game. The rest of what they do we don't have to know about. It's too bad that money has the kind of power to buy-out of problems. It does give the wrong impression for viewers. It is hard to know whether these actions cause others to mimic them also.
ReplyDeleteAthlete's are starting to carry just as much bagage and gossip as normal movie stars. ESPN does dig pretty deep into the lives of the stars but there tv show is still successful so how can you blame them, people love to hear the gossip. It can get old if it goes for a long time but it does attract the viewers.
